Dublin, Ireland
WHY STUDY IN CITY?
Ireland’s largest city and capital, Dublin is an economic center with one of the fastest growing populations of any European capital city. A vibrant cultural scene is dominant throughout the city and includes music of all kinds, theater, art, and literary activities. Lively restaurants, pubs and clubs line the streets, providing a wealth of options for weekend entertainment.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
As a Trinity student, you can find many small classes, enjoy a high faculty-to-student ratio, and find unique electives like Creativity and Technology, Energy in the 21st Century, and the Psychology of the Climate Crisis, all of which feature research by Trinity academics. Get ready for class in the Old Library, surrounded by 7 million volumes, including the famous Book of Kells, circa 800. Learn your way around the 47-acre campus with support from Trinity’s peer mentoring program.
Need time out? In the heart of the city, it’s easy to dig into 1,000 years of history. The Trinity campus sits among top Dublin landmarks like the National Gallery of Ireland, the National Library, St. Stephen’s Green, and the statue of Molly Malone of the famous Irish ballad. The city also offers first-rate museums, theater, music, galleries, and festivals.
To help you get to know more of Ireland, your program includes IFSA excursions (no extra fees), like exploring the stunning West Coast and Kilkenny, a medieval city where you can get your fill of artisan foods and try your hand at the Gaelic sport, hurling.

Academic Program
The program begins with an orientation in Dublin. Trinity College Dublin assigns credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), where courses weigh 5 ECTS or 10 ECTS. A full semester course load at Trinity College is typically 30 ECTS (15 U.S. semester credits; 3.75 Pomona credits).
Trinity College accepts students by department. Students may select one to three departments and indicate which courses they wish to take. Students must select departments in which they have completed coursework at Pomona.
The English and Political Science departments may have limited spaces, and students must be declared majors in these subjects to enroll in these courses at TCD.
Chemistry courses are only available to spring and academic year students, and are not available for fall semester students.
Computer Science and Engineering courses are only available to spring semester or academic year students, due to the examination schedule.
Additional course and subject restrictions are listed in the IFSA brochure for the program.
Students are required to take at least one, preferably two, upper-level (Sophister) courses. Students should bear in mind that most Sophister-level courses have prerequisites and admission to particular courses is contingent on approval by the relevant Trinity College department, based on the applicant’s background and experience.
During the fall program, Pomona students are required to enroll in the Trinity Early Start Program. This three-week interdisciplinary course focuses on Irish Studies and earns 5 ECTS (0.625 Pomona credits). Students enroll in three to five Trinity College courses to earn the remaining 25 ECTS (3.125 Pomona credits).
Students are required to take at least one course with significant Irish content. (The Early Start program counts towards this requirement for the fall semester).
Living Arrangements
Students live off campus in student apartments with a mix of double and single bedrooms plus shared living space and kitchen. Housing is off campus, about a 15-minute walk away. Apartments accommodate six to eight students. Each student has a single bedroom with an attached, private bathroom. All housing in Dublin is self-catered, with shared kitchens for students to prepare meals, and Pomona will provide a meal allowance. Students can also purchase meals on campus. Pomona College will cover the standard housing fees, and students who opt for housing with supplemental fees will be billed directly by IFSA for any supplemental housing fees.
