Program Description:
SwarthSwarthmore College is a private, nonsectarian, liberal arts with engineering institution, 11 miles away from Philadelphia. It is part of the Tri-College Consortium with Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, and students may cross-register within the consortium. The student to faculty ratio is 8:1, providing a personalized and intimate education. Swarthmore is located on 425 acres of the renowned Scott Arboretum, which boasts robust gardens and more than 4,000 plant varieties. It offers an array of arts programs which lead to on- and off-campus student-led performances. Students can also enjoy the nearby Parrish Beach or hop on the train (right on campus) for a quick ride into nearby Philadelphia.

Academic program:
Pomona College students enroll in, at a minimum, the equivalent of three Pomona College credits, and a maximum of 4.75 Pomona College credits. Grades earned at Swarthmore College will be calculated into the Pomona College GPA.

Courses must follow the Transfer Credit Policy and should be reviewed by the student’s academic advisor. The Department Chair will ultimately decide if courses taken through the domestic exchange program apply towards the student’s major; students should consult with their Chair before continuing with the application.

Please keep in mind that General Education credit is not awarded for coursework taken on domestic programs as it must be taken at The Claremont Colleges.

Living arrangements:
Students will stay in one of Swarthmore’s dormitories and participate in the meal plan

Number of students:
Swarthmore College has a student body of approximately 1670 students. This includes more than 43% students of color and 23% international students.

Pomona College student participation depends on interest. Historically, up to two students participate per semester.
