About the Program
If you believe in taking an informed and innovative approach to problem solving, you'll find your home at UCL. You can tackle global issues from multiple perspectives in your classes, whether that's by creating art, studying citizenship, or preparing for a career in global health.

About London
London is one of the most cosmopolitan, hip cities in the world, with an atmosphere of excitement and sophistication. The city has many remarkable cultural, historic, artistic, and intellectual offerings and has a diverse population with more than 300 languages spoken.

Program Benefits
  • The oldest and largest institution within the University of London (UL) federation, UCL is a member of Britain's Russell Group of universities, similar to the Ivy League
  • Live and learn in the heart of London, where you will receive a truly urban experience
  • Enjoy a vibrant arts scene, including a full-length opera each year by UCL's well known Operatic Society, and an active students' union with a modern theatre, snack bars, music rooms, film studio, squash courts and fitness center
  • The Slade School of Art, a department of UCL, offers art students a highly competitive Independent Studio Program
  • A new global citizenship program draws on UCL's research-based teaching in multiple subjects to enable students to understand citizenship as a significant intellectual concern of our time
  • A new program based at UCL's International Health and Medical Education Center is aimed at future health professionals and other students interested in international health issues

Scholarships
IFSA scholarships are primarily need-based and factor in any additional cost your study abroad program might have over home school tuition. The awards are $500 for summer programs, $1,500 for semester programs and $2,500 for full year programs. These scholarships may apply to any IFSA program, with the exception of our custom programs.

Academic Program
UCL is located in the heart of the Bloomsbury district in the center of London. Most attractions of London are within walking distance of the College: national art galleries, museums, theatres, cinemas, concert halls, opera houses, rock and jazz venues, the main shopping district in the West End, and a variety of cafes and restaurants. Students are fully integrated into academic life at UCL and are expected to attend courses exactly as British students do. This means attendance at lectures, seminars, tutorials, and labs associated with each course, and sitting the end-of-the-year examinations.

Students enroll in 16 U.S. semester credits (4 Pomona credits).

Students are required to take at least one course with significant British content.

Living Arrangements
Students will live in apartments or residence halls. All of UCL's housing is scattered throughout London and you should be prepared for a commute of 15 to 40 minutes by bus or tube to your classes.

Pomona College will cover the standard housing fees. IFSA will bill students directly for supplemental housing fees if students are placed in housing that has an additional fee. It is very important that you review IFSA’s and UCL’s housing information carefully and complete the housing form as soon as you receive the instructions. UCL assigns student housing on a first-come, first-served basis. All housing applications must be submitted by the deadline. It is the student’s responsibility to select UCL housing that fits into their budget. Do not list accommodation options outside your budget, as UCL has been known to place students in the most expensive housing option listed, even if it was their last choice.

Number of Students
Enrollment ranges from 25-45 students, depending on department availability and applicant pool. UCL enrollment is approximately 22,000 students.
