Academics
Students take courses at the University of Melbourne alongside Australian and international students.

Pomona requires participants to take one course focusing on Australian culture, which might be in areas such as film, history, literature, sociology, or politics. IFSA-Butler also offers students excursions and activities to expand their understanding of Australian culture.

University of Melbourne uses a point system to allocate course credit where 12.5 points are equivalent to 4 U.S. semester credits (1.0 Pomona credit) and 50 points are equal to 16 U.S. semester credits (4.0 Pomona credits).

Housing
Students live either in a self-catered, off-campus apartment/flat at Student Village Melbourne where students share a four-bedroom, two-bathroom flat with another IFSA or international student, or in on-campus residential colleges. Please note that spaces in residential colleges are extremely competitive and placements are made by the college rather than IFSA. Students who are not placed in a residential college will automatically be placed in the Student Village.

Students choosing the Student Village Melbourne will receive a meal stipend from Pomona to prepare their own meals. Students may also apply to live in one of two residential colleges; residential colleges include mandatory meal plans as part of the housing fee and an additional meal stipend is not provided.
