Program Description:

Arcadia Trinity College Dublin
World-renowned, prestigious university in the heart of Dublin since 1592

How would you like to study in an atmospheric, prestigious campus founded in 1592, where you could walk the same paths as notable alumni such as Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker, Samuel Beckett, Jonathan Swift, U2’s manager Paul McGuinness, and former presidents of Ireland Mary McAleese and Mary Robinson?

Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is a world-renowned institution combining history, tradition, and academic excellence with innovation and research leadership. The QS World University Rankings 2015/16 ranked Trinity 78th out of the top 100 universities in the world. Located in the heart of Dublin, within the seclusion and tranquility of a walled campus environment, this college experience would be truly unique, timeless, and impressive on any resume.

You’ll find plenty of courses to choose from in departments such as Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Engineering, Mathematics and Science; the Business School and Health Sciences. Among Trinity’s hundreds of course offerings, we recommend selecting courses from a minimum of two departments and a maximum of four departments.

  • Join into campus life easily with over 100 College societies and 50 active TCD Sports Clubs to choose from.

  • You have the option to apply for Trinity’s competitive three-week pre-session courseUnderstanding Ireland, prior to the start of the fall semester, which focuses on several areas of Irish Studies.

  • In order to be eligible to take classes within the Political Science Department, your minimum GPA must be 3.3 and for the Philosophy or Economics Departments, your minimum GPA must be a 3.5.

  • This program is open to students at the Junior or Senior level.

  • Virtual Internship Option: Replace one elective course with a virtual internship through Arcadia to add international professional experience to your resume. See the Internship Placement Guide for information about placement details.

  • Trinity's many famous alumni reflect the institution's highest academic standards across disciplines, including William Campbell, who was joint winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize for medicine.

  • Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses, through Arcadia's planned Excursions and Activities.

Academic Program
The program begins with an orientation in Dublin. Trinity College Dublin assigns credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), where courses are worth 5 ECTS or 10 ECTS.

For fall 2022/spring 2023: A full semester course load at Trinity College must total 30 ECTS to earn 4.0 Pomona credits.
For fall 2023 onwards: A full semester course load at Trinity College is typically 30 ECTS (15 U.S. semester credits; 3.75 Pomona credits).

Trinity College accepts students by department. Students may select one to three departments and indicate which courses they wish to take.

The English and History departments may have limited spaces, and students must be declared English majors to enroll in English courses. Students must select departments in which they have completed coursework at Pomona.

Chemistry courses are only available to academic year students, and are not an available option for single semester students.

Computer Science and Engineering courses are only available to spring semester or academic year students, due to the examination schedule.

Students are required to take at least one, preferably two, upper-level (Sophister) courses. Students should bear in mind that most Sophister-level courses have prerequisites and admission to particular courses is contingent on approval by the relevant Trinity College department, based on the applicant’s background and experience.

During the fall program, Pomona students are required to enroll in the Trinity Semester Start-Up Program. This three-week course focuses on Irish Studies and earns 5 ECTS. Students enroll in three to five Trinity College courses to earn the remaining 25 ECTS.

Students are required to take at least one course with significant Irish content. (The Trinity Semester start-up program counts towards this requirement for the fall semester).

Living Arrangements
Arcadia students at Trinity College live in Arcadia-provided flats in the heart of Dublin city about a 20-25 minute walk from Trinity College. Typical Dublin student housing includes five to seven students in each apartment, with a kitchen and living area. The accommodations are self-catered, and Pomona will provide a meal allowance.

Pomona College will cover the standard housing fees. Students who request housing that is outside of the standard offering are responsible for any supplemental fees, which are billed directly to the student. Please select housing options that fit within your budget.

Number of Students
Arcadia enrolls approximately 30 students, selected from a national pool. University enrollment is approximately 13,000 students.
